The Doll Festival (hina matsuri) or Festival of the Peach (momo-no-sekku), one of the most important annual festivities of Japan. Peach blossom is emblematic of feminine grace and gentleness of spring. On this occasion, dolls of the emperor and empress together with furniture are set out on a 5-or 7-tiered platform draped with red cloth.
