Adelaide, Australia

Male doll dressed from the Matyo region, Hungary. The cloth body has wire-hinged legs. The white cotton shirt has a coloured satin stitch embroidery and sleeves trimmed with rickrack braid and machine made lace. The black cotton apron contains borders of brightly coloured embroidered flowers. The doll has a black felt waistcoat with a shaped green felt hat that is trimmed with ribbon and handpainted cut felt. The boots are vinyl with cardboard soles. The man's white cotton skirt should actually be voluminous pants to fit with tradition and the red felt tabard with white felt trim is not part of the costume from this area.
