The popular Philadelphia department store J. B. Sheppard & Co. offered a molded cloth doll 18-22 inches tall from 1890 to about 1930. The store did not record who made the dolls with their hand-painted faces, but the store's own seamstresses sewed the clothing for the dolls. Many came in white baby gowns and bonnets, though other clothing was available too.
