Emile Jumeau of the Jumeau doll company was considered an inventor. A number of patents, mostly dealing eye mechanisms of dolls, were issued to him. In 1885, Jumeau invented a method for making the eyelids close over the eyeballs. In 1887, he created sleeping eyes with eyelashes that gave dolls more lifelike appearances. This doll is often considered inferior to the dolls made by Jumeau before 1900. She has a pressed-cardboard head, sleeping blue eyes, closed mouth, and brown mohair wig. She has a composition jointed body.
