In 2012, Ian Harkin and Lucie Follett co-founded Arklu., Ltd. The partners wanted to create a doll company that was inspired by real kids. The result was Lottie, a doll based on the proportions of a 9-year-old girl (apart from her head, which was larger to allow more hair-styling play). The motto for Lottie was “Be bold, be brave, BE YOU.” Lottie had a child-like body and did not wear makeup or high heels, but instead opted to wear raincoats, striped tights, dresses, and wellington boots. Lottie won fifteen international awards and was featured in several prominent publications.
