The Dean Rag Book Company Ltd. began as a manufacturer of children's cloth books, but by 1908, it had offered dolls and animals figures made of cloth. By the 1920s, Dean's had become one of the top doll makers in Britain. It advertised its well-made cloth dolls as clean and hygienic, and it made dolls of popular characters from children's literature, such as Lewis Carroll's "The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland."
