Doll's face

Heritage Victoria

Heritage Victoria
Melbourne, Australia

This is the face of a bisque doll excavated from the site of the Former Coach and Horses hotel. Dolls like these were made in large numbers in factories in France and especially Germany. They had soft cloth or kid leather bodies, glass eyes, and porcelain arms and legs. This doll belonged to Mary Ellen O'Meara who lived at the hotel with her family until it burnt to the ground in 1907.
