Doll's house of the Stromer family

Four Nuremberg doll’s houses form the heart of the toy collection at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. Their exceptionally well-preserved state suggests that the on average 2.50 metre tall houses were not intended as playthings. Rather, they show the ideal household as a guide for young girls in matters of proper household affairs. One particular piece is the “Stromer doll’s house” which has hardly changed since its creation in 1639. Fifteen rooms containing more than 1000 objects are an authentic reflection of the genteel domestic culture of that age.
