Rochester , United States

The Paris company of Schmitt and Sons made dolls for sale from 1863 to 1894. Collectors distinguish the Schmitt and Sons bisque head bebe by its rounded face, narrow eyebrows and cardboard (not cork) pate. Early heads, made by the press-mold method, have a pale tinting and an incised mark of crossed hammers in a shield.
