In 1986, Paul Reubens introduced a new brand of Saturday morning programming with _Pee-Wee_s Playhouse.__ The show followed host Pee-wee Herman as he played in a funhouse filled with toys, gadgets, talking furniture and appliances, puppets, and a genie. The show flaunted materialism, hypocrisy, over-the-top hairstyles, and oddities that proved an instant hit. _Pee-Wee_s Playhouse__ provided a twist on the vision of the Eisenhower-era that Reubens grew-up in and appealed to Americans in the thick of the Reagan era.
