Walking dolls of the 1950s were a novelty of the doll world designed to appeal to baby boomer girls by making dolls ambulatory and thus more companionable. Ideal's Saucy Walker was perhaps the most popular and sought after of this type of doll, but many other manufacturers made their own variations. The torso of the doll held a mechanism which aided the doll in placing one foot in front of the other while at the same time, the doll's head turned from side to side with each step forward.
