Doll artist Dora Petzold worked in Berlin in the 1920's creating the character dolls much in demand at the time. The artist made her dolls of various materials including silk, layers of paper, composition, and pressed cardboard. A Berlin magazine described the dolls as works of art appropriate "for high society, the elegant world, for the boudoir, for the lady." Petzold herself spoke with pride of the quality and realism of her dolls: "All Dora Petzold dolls are produced in my workshop under my personal directorship and after my personal design models. The bodies of the dolls consist of high quality knit wear and are stuffed so that all doll joints can be bent to imitate every human movement."
