Hungarian National Museum
Budapest, Hungary

The pale grey silk is covered with budding rose branches in white and gold. On the sleeves and the bottom of the front there are decorative cords similar to those on the overcoat. The standing collar is richly adorned with trimming. Can be buttoned with nine cuffs. Its original lining, from the waist up, is cream-coloured silk with flowers. The cuts on the back are accentuated with wide trimming, which become a knotted decoration in the bottom third.
As undercoat of the formal attire, this dolman was worn under the overcoat. It was made at the shop of the Tauszig brothers at Budapest, for the coronation of the last Hungarian king and Habsburg monarch, Charles IV. It was worn by Lajos Szecsődi Cukkelter.
