In 1996, as a final year sculpture student Robert Preston at (what was then) Ballarat University curated the Student Sculpture Survey exhibition. It was the second iteration of an event where all Victorian sculpture students could exhibit their work, hosted at the University. His entry in the exhibition was this sculpture Domicile. In the Curator's Notes he stated that the exhibition 'allows the participants to be introduced to the other practitioners and their work to experience the diversity of sculptural expression produced by people who are at a similar stage of their career. Allowing people from the wider community the opportunity to experience the sculpture of the "next generation" and see the diversity of styles and materials used in the production of three dimensional work by these young practitioners is extremely valuable'. The next year, Preston entered Domicile in the Central Goldfields Sculptured exhibition where it won the 1997 Acquisitive Prize. It is now installed in the foyer of the Library in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia.
