The oldest domino set is dated around 1120 A.D., but modern dominos as we know them originated from China and were made of ivory and ebony. In the early 18th century, the game migrated to Italy and the name "Domino" was born. The name comes from the pieces' resemblance to Venetian Carnival masks known as "domini", which were white with black spots. These masks were so named because they resembled French priests' winter hoods, being black on the outside and white on the inside. This contemporary set made by Melissa & Doug is marketed as an old fashioned game for all ages, and it comes in a hangable wooden box.
