The ancient game of dominoes originated in China around the year 1120. The spots on the tiles represent all possible throws of a pair of dice. It is easy to make a set of dominos; people made paper sets, for economical reasons, during the late 19th century. An industrious 20th century woodworker produced this hand made set. The dominoes are housed in a box with a large domino image painted on the lid.
