The Wang Bicentennial Hall of Fame celebration dinners were held simultaneously in Sydney and Melbourne on 17/6/1988. Linked by television some 1600 people, including 90 Hall of Famers gathered to consecrate the best single sporting performances by Australians. Sir Donald Bradman won the men's category for his 309 runs in one day of the third cricket Test against England in 1930. Dawn Fraser won the women's section for her three consecutive Olympic swimming gold medals in the 100m freestyle and the 1983 Australia II yachting team for winning the America's Cup. The creator of the Wang Bicentennial Hall of Fame awards was Garry Daly, head of the Australian Confederation of Sport.
