Don Quixote of Literacy

Puttu Sayoga2015

Chennai Photo Biennale

Chennai Photo Biennale
Chennai, India

Photography, for Putu Sayoga, is a medium for storytelling and is therefore interested in the photo essay genre which uses several photos to tell a story. "In this work I try to explore the story of a horse-caretaker named Ridwan Sururi who use his horse as a mobile library for kids in a remote village in Central Java in Indonesia. I was born in a small village and I have similar experienced about how difficult to access books when I was a kid and also understand how important book for the future of the kids, that backgrounds fuel me to working on this story. My approach in this work is more into street photography style influenced by Henri Cartier-Bresson with his decisive moment, documenting his daily life and his activity with the horse library."
