The Blacksmith is an oath-bound protector of Tibetan origin. Butchers and blacksmiths share the lowest rank in Tibetan society. The Oath-Bound Blacksmith is most commonly seen in the company of Dorje Legpa, acting as his chief servant and leader of a vast retinue of spirit followers. He is understood to be black in appearance with flaming orange hair, one face, and two hands and riding atop a shaggy brown goat. His right hand, upraised, would have held a large hammer and in his outstretched left hand would have been a blacksmith’s bellows.
