Appropriating a form of traditional Portuguese pottery, with the purpose of containing and serving fresh water, the artist creates this unique piece that combines the simple surface glaze with a humorous visual treatment.
A page from the well-known periodical O António Maria is meticulously reproduced in pottery and added to the base as if tied with string. Next to one of the spouts, a scene of caricature micro sculptures depicts a conversation between the artist himself, Maria da Paciência and António Maria, two characters first created in his graphic work. On the opposite spout, there is a micro caricature of António Luís Gonzaga Gomes, friend and director of said periodical and of the Fábrica de Faianças das Caldas da Rainha, to whom this piece was dedicated. Completing the amusing decoration is a cat, perched on the arched handle. The piece was given by Gonzaga Gomes to the museum, prior to 1927.
