Dr. Masatoshi Koshiba, the creator of Super Kamiokande, succeeded in capturing space neutrinos using its predecessor Kamiokande, and received the Nobel Prize in Physics.
170 thousand years ago, in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a star has reached a lifetime and a supernova explosion has occurred. A large amount of neutrinos generated by the explosion to reach the Earth in February 1987, then 11 of them were caught by Kamiokande. Kamiokande also succeeded in capturing the neutrinos generated during the nuclear fusion reaction in the center of the sun. Through these success, a new field called "Neutrino Astronomy" was opened.
