Harriet says: "This is Dr Nick Dennison who is a consultant anaesthetist at Frimley Park Hospital. At the start of the lockdown he made the incredibly hard but brave decision to move out of home away from his family, away from his three year old son who is battling cancer, to do his job and save the lives of strangers.
It really was a privilege to try to capture the emotion and struggle of such a decision, as so many NHS staff have to do, through a portrait. I, therefore, owe a big thank you to Nick not only for for sharing his story but ultimately for his bravery and dedication too."
Dr. Nick says: "Harriet’s portrait of me was painted at tough time. With incredible brush strokes she has captured some of the darkness of Spring 2020. During this time I was treating Covid-19 patients in hospital but couldn’t go back home to my family because of the risk of passing on the virus to my young son who was on chemotherapy for lymphoma.
Harriet has painted this portrait in black and white with just a single splash of colour in her very unique, beautiful style. This portrait will always remind me of these times and that if you look hard at dark clouds you may find a rainbow."
