Dr. Pittaluga performing an autopsy before a group of students, including Gregorio Marañón. They shared research and teaching spaces, as well as a strong intellectual and political profile. Pittaluga, an expert in parasitology and hematology, collaborated on the landmark Manual of Internal Medicine, co-edited by Marañón. In 1918, they jointly published a key report on the influenza epidemic in Spain. They were both members of the Ateneo de Madrid.
