Starting in 1970. the Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee (CSLDC) was the original organizer of the New York Gay Pride march and rally. At first a committee of representatives from various organizations, they later became fully independent. They continued to be the organizers of Gay Pride until replaced by Heritage of Pride in 1984.

Rudy Grillo was a member of the CSLDC, the Gay Activists Alliance, and a producer for community based radio station WBAI, the New York station of the Pacifica Radio network. Host of WBAI’s “Gay Rap,” Grillo was also the station’s Program Director of the Gay Men’s Department from 1980 until its dissolution in 1982.
