This sculpture was crafted purely by hand with only several simple tools: a single-edge blade, a pencil and an eraser on an emu eggshell. Based on the natural color of the emu egg and the application of the yang carving technique by creating indentation on the background to make the pattern prominent, the artisan illustrated an astonishing full-body dragon on the curvy surface of the eggshell. The skillful use of colors, light and shadow, and transitions gives the dragon a lifelike effect that it looks as if it’s rising up towards the sky.
