The draggon tree is an evergreen tree up to 18 m, widely distributed in moist and drier forests. It is a sign that shows degraded areas having been once primary forests.
The dragon tree has been used by the ancient Batooro for different purposes ranging from traditional medicine, ornamental, ceremonial purposes and religious ceremonies-(shrines) for worshiping Rubanga-god. Rubanga small god worshipped under the dracaena steudeneri setting-under which high priest-Nyakatagarra could mediate between the gods and living for blessings, safety, family harmony and prosperity. It occurs from Eastern to southern Africa and at Tooro Botanical Gardens it grows in moist compatments of the gardens.
