"This chest of drawers Ferdinand Style and its partner, placed in Can Llopis Elizabethan hall, present Romantic Museum of Sitges, are a sample of the influence or French imperial style in the Catalan cabinetmaking at the beginning of the XIX century.

The importance that bronze had at that time in French furniture, in Catalonia it was replaced by the polychrome carving decoration that incorporated the bronze tones variety: polished gold finished, matt, black patina and even green imitating rust as green “antic”, as you can see in the eagles where the chest drawer box rests.

From the XVIII century boxes that are part of a bride dowry and were used to keep the trousseau were replaced by chest of drawers. Given that the couple often settled at the groom family house, the chest of drawers became a representation furniture, reflection of the origin and bride’s family economic position. If the family could afford, as is in this case, the contribution was two chests of drawers."
