Emilio Renart’s creative project was to unite art and science as a single discipline just as, in his view, the individual and the collective would blend together one day. "Dibujo No. 8" forms part of that project that included as well a vision of art tied to a cosmic order. Through lines, blotches, and textures, the ink composes macro and microscopic worlds that house the organic forms spread over the sheet of paper. Cavities, filaments, atoms, and constellations are suggestive of the hybrid imaginaries of histology, astronomy, and physics. Renart’s universe was informed by the time in which it took shape, a period marked by the
space race and the development of nuclear weapons that made tragically patent the risks that came with the dehumanized deployment of technology. In Renart’s work, however, nuclear energy and the cosmos are mutable forces. “If we accept the possibility that every human is endowed with similar qualities, we can deduce that the explosion of the psyche’s atom is a certainty, no matter how slow in the making,” he stated.
