This drawing by Annie Hunter was created from a plaster cast at the British Museum in the late 19th century and published by Alfred Maudslay in the Appendix to the Biologia Centrali-Americana. The red colour highlights the fifth and final passage of the hieroglyphic text, naming the building that the stairway is part of. Its modern name if House C of the Palace of Palenque, but the ancient Maya called it the 'House of the Achievements', highlighting the military success of its ruler.
