This design shows the basics of the Isaac Peral submarine already devised in 1885. The submarine had a wealth of innovations that meant it could navigate underwater and be used as a weapon.
The design shows a range of the elements involved in construction: the prow had a torpedo tube, vertical propeller, and air intake for ventilation, as well as 4 portholes. In the center the indirect vision turret and magnetic needle or compass can be seen. The stern has other important elements such as the vertical stern propeller, directional rudder, submarine elevator, and propulsion propellers.
