Dräger celebrated the 100th anniversary of its first breathing apparatus with closed breathing loop in 2004. The company from Lübeck made a significant contribution to the safety of miners underground with this technology.
The mining gas protection device model 160 A had a complete enclosure, a horizontal alkali cartridge and oil reservoir, a constant and automatic lung oil metering (1.5l/min) and a warning signal. Due to its low weight and transparency, the breathing protection developed from 1934 was a standard device for miners for many years and was used as basic technology for additional follow-up Dräger models. The protective devices from Dräger were also used in Saarland mining operations.
