Folk dance and folk music are important sources of inspiration for Jiří Kylián. This preference can be traced most clearly in 'Dream Dances', which is based on folk dance motives from many countries. Luciano Berio’s folk songs serve as musical background for 'Dream Dances'. Berio gave a personal interpretation to folk songs from several countries, such as Italy, France, America, and Russia. Jiří Kylián, in his turn, employs the same method for his choreography. The ballet, divided into ten segments, consists of five duets, tree pas de trois, a solo, and a quartet.
