Chung Man-lurk settled in Hong Kong in 1947. He was the winner of the Prussia Film Photography Competition organized by New Evening Post in 1958. Chung joined the Photographic Society of Hong Kong in 1959. He went on to be awarded FPSHK by the Photographic Society of Hong Kong, and FRPS by the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in later years. In 1963, he joined a film company and worked as a full-time movie-still photographer. During this period he was also the chief editor of New Wave Photography. In 1968 he opened a photographic studio offering portrait and advertisement services. Starting from the 1950s Chung likes to take photographs of real life, of real people at moments of drama, crisis, tenderness and joy. His pictures are true to life, and their artistic treatment makes them into images which move to haunt the viewer.
