'Dree' Dress

Grunge, haute couture details, Kurt Cobain, and youth culture were the starting points of Dries Van Noten’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection. This collection plays with unexpected associations between the masculine and feminine, richness and nonchalance, plaid fabrics, and 3D flower applications. Plaid, a pattern whose association is mostly masculine, is reworked here in taffeta, organza, mousseline, and lamé. The relief in the flower applications in the collection reference the textures in Lucian Freud’s paintings, as did the faded colours of the plaid fabrics. This silhouette layers a voluminous sheer black long evening gown with flowers above a plaid pantsuit.
