Dress

The dress belonged to Johanna Friberg, born 1937. 1943 she began her education at the Royal Opera School in Stockholm where she later on, in 1958, became a soloist. In her work for the opera, she came to travel all over the world. Every time she came to Paris, she bought beautiful and fashionable fabrics that the theater seamstresses sewed into beautiful clothes for stage and representation. Friberg found inspiration for the dresses in fashion magazines and the model of this dress was found in the magazine Harper's Bazaar. The dress was sewn by a private tailor on Tegnérgatan in Stockholm especially to Johanna Friberg's presentation at court in February 1956. The dress is made of tulle and silk, which was chosen to remind of the ballet costumes that were used at the opera.
