Drinking Tea is a work by the Chinese artist Lei Xuei (China, 19–-) with which he invites the viewer to reflect on his identity and the tortuous relationship that defines the dialogue between East and West. In Drinking Tea, Lei Xuei reproduces crushed soda cans in porcelain, on which, by hand, he recreates typical decorative motifs from the Ming dynasty. Tradition revives in the artist’s delicate sculptures where his roots open up to globalisation in a profoundly critical way. Consumer objects assault and replace a cultural heritage condemned to adapt to this new reality.
