Dudley Castle is an example of a Norman motte and bailey castle that was later rebuilt in stone. The keep, barbican and curtain walls date to the 14th century. A hall was added in the 16th century. The castle was inhabited until 1750 when it was destroyed by a fire. A zoo was established here in the 1930s and includes several structures designed by the Tecton architectural group.
