Dutch Tichelaar Wedding Plate

A Dutch plate created by the company Royal Tichelaar in Makkum, The Netherlands. The plate commemorates the Wedding of Prince Hendrik (1820-1879) the third son of King Willem II of The Netherlands to Princess Marie of Prussia (1855-1888). To the left is a naive portrait of Marie and to the right of Hendrik, in between them an abstract orange tree, the symbol of the Dutch Royal House. The letters DPVOR on the plate is for De Prins van Oranje or The Prince of Orange. The plate is marked with the Tichelaar factory mark on the back.
