Bombard said to come from Chapelle-aux-Naux Detail

This bombard was discovered on the Loire riverbed, on the land of the township of Chapelle-aux-Naux, in 1894.

This piece of artillery, which measures almost 6.5 feet (2 m) in length, weighs approximately one and a half tons. It has two sections: the barrage and the breech, which both have different diameters. The barrage, with a length of 47 inches (120 cm), is made up of 18 longitudinal staves held in place by 28 rings, known as the stave assembly. The breech has molding marks, suggesting that it was made from cast iron, a procedure that was increasingly well-mastered in the 15th century.

This firearm shot stone cannonballs weighing approximately 287 pounds (130 kg).
