Cast in an alloy of gold and copper by the lost-wax process, the delicate Tairona ear ornaments allow us to see the way in which a synthesis is made between abstraction and figurative representation in the imagination of the pre-Hispanic artist. Like the metamorphoses which occur in the animal world, a basic half-moon shape transforms itself into a serpent with two heads and forked tongues.
