This pair of gold ear pendants has been preserved in perfect condition. They could be attached to the ear by means of a small gold hook. The hook is attached to a solid circular plate, to which a large oval garnet has been affixed in a serrated setting. The large garnet is flanked by two smaller ones. The use of gemstones in jewellery soared in popularity during the time of the Roman Empire. Precious stones were imported from remote regions such as India.
