This is one of four proto-brassieres found in Lengberg Castle, Austria, during a 2008 archaeological excavation. The separate cups, shoulder straps, and lace embellishment on this example bear resemblance to a modern bra. Two of the four garments discovered were radiocarbon dated, determining that they were produced between the end of the 14th century and the second half of the 15th century.
