Early Italian Pharmacy

This workshop scene highlights the many activities of an apothecary’s assistants as they sort and process herbs and plants, distill organic substances for medicine, and prepare doses. Large racks of glass distillation vessels and apothecary jars line the walls. Women and young assistants gather materials and tend fires, while the alchemist attentively supervises and speaks with a young apprentice. Through the large vaulted door, a tree-lined landscape can be seen in the distance.
