This is one of the earliest prototypes of the small-scale triangular Hanukkah lamp. Made either in Spain or southern France, it migrated, following the expulsion in the late 15th century, to the Mediterranean region, and from there to Europe. The design in these various lands – featuring recurrent themes such as rosette windows, horseshoe-shaped arches, and clover leaves – was clearly influenced by local styles, but the original triangular form was preserved.
