The east choir is the most important room of a church. In the past it was the central room for the liturgy of the high collegiate clergy, and the main altar of the church also stands here in the east choir. One of the few preserved altarpieces in the cathedral is on it: a carved altar from around 1510. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The artist is unknown, but is presumed to be a Thuringian workshop. In the middle, Mary appears with the Child Jesus. On the left is Saint Catherine and on the right, with the chalice in her hand, Saint Barbara. And in the side wings you can see the twelve apostles.
