Easter Rising 1916 commemorative plaque at the Abbey Theatre.

On 23rd July 1966, the Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Seán Lemass unveiled a commemorative plaque in the vestibule of the new Abbey Theatre. The quote 'It is a hard service they take that help me' is from Kathleen Ni Houlihan by W.B. Yeats. Seven members of the Abbey company and staff were recognised on the plaque for their contribution to the Easter Rising. In 2016 a new plaque will be unveiled including names of more individuals linked to the Abbey Theatre who took their part in the Easter Rising.
