The two are pictured outside the old Abbey Theatre in the mid 1920's. Arthur Shields served in the General Post Office during Easter week, having retrieved his rifle from under the Abbey stage. He was part of the final surrender on Moore Street, Dublin and was interred in Frongoch prison camp, Wales. On his return to the Abbey Theatre in September 1916 he continued to play major roles with the company at home and abroad until his departure for Hollywood in the late 1930's.
