Echoes of FESTAC

Celebrating 70 years of music in Nigeria, Echoes of FESTAC pays tribute to the rhythms, melodies, and cultural expressions that have shaped the nation's musical heritage. Inspired by the grandeur of FESTAC77, this artwork reimagines the iconic FESTAC head as a contemporary mask, forged from metal to symbolize resilience and creativity.The figures of a drummer and a dancer emerge from the "brain" of the mask, representing the vibrant performances that defined FESTAC77 and the enduring spirit of Nigerian music. It was a moment of pride, unity and solidarity among African and Black communities globally. This piece reflects the harmony between tradition and innovation, echoing the voices of a rich musical legacy that continues to inspire and unify.
