Known as “the fishing capital of the world,” Florida Bay is integral to the economy of the Florida Keys. The bay serves as a breeding ground for pink shrimp, spiny lobster, tarpon and spotted seatrout. Its inflow of freshwater from the Everglades has been greatly reduced, particularly during the dry season, causing higher salinity levels that are linked to seagrass and fish die-offs.
