The Ecuadorian Trogon (Trogon mesurus) is a bird of 32 centimeters.
In trogons there is sexual dimorphism (different plumage). The male has a bright dark green head, chest, mantle and scapulars and a black tail with a red chest and a white collar separating the chest from the red abdomen. The female has a dark gray almost black head, chest, mantle, and scapulae. The eyes are white and the eye ring is grey.
These birds camouflage very well in the forest vegetation and usually remain perched for long periods. They mainly eat insects and fruits.
Ecuadorian Trogon is found only in western Ecuador and north-western Peru.
